The following letter was read out in Blackpool by Marcus Hilton. Alex Ivanets and Lisa Bellinger-Ivanets announced this way that they decided to retire from competitions after 11 years of dancing together for England. Alex and Lisa were four times UK Closed Amateur Latin champions, four times UK Closed Professional Latin champions, British national South American Showdance champions, medalists of the British Closed national championships and finalists and semi finalists of the major international competitions. See their results and photos.
After 24 years of competing of which 11 dancing together, we have decided to retire from competitive dancing!
From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank our friends, and fellow competitors and all the people connected to us for continuous support throughout the years. We consider ourselves fortunate to have worked with the best teachers in the dance world, you know who you are, and we will cherish every moment and information we have learnt and try to pass on to the next generations. But the one person we Want to make a special thank you to is the the person who introduced us to each other and made this partnership happen, without you we wouldn't be where we are today, thank you miss Denise weavers.
We also want to thank our sponsors DSI and International Dance Shoes, you have been so supportive over the years.
Blackpool is a very special place for us and brings a lot of happy memories, winning Juvenile British Open, Junior British Open, Under 21 British Open, and finally semi finalists in Amateur and Professional open championships. And obviously taking part in the invitational team match is an honour for every dancer, therefore we made the decision to finish here at a place that is close in our hearts.
We wish the organisers of the British, the best dance festival in the world continued success and all the competitors best of luck.
Lastly we would like to thank our families, and parents to whom we owe everything. For being there for us all the time.
24 years has really flown by, people still remind us about Lisa doing Paso Doble on her own at 2 years old. On this famous floor copying the moves of the likes of David Sycamore and Denise Weavers, Sammy Stopford and Barbara McColl and Donnie Burns and Gaynor Fairweather, time does really go by, treasure every moment as if it was your last, put your whole heart into it but mostly enjoy.
