Dance lessons

We have not competed for around 20 years, and would like to get back to the dance scene, we are in our 30's. We are looking for a dance teacher/coach for both ballroom and latin around the north london area to help us progress through pre-champ into amateur. For ballroom you could try Ernie Chatt in Watford or Christine Burton in Hemel Hempstead. They might be able to suggest Latin coaches for you. Of course there are also nearby Monica Needham, Frank Venables in Chipperfield and Michael and Vicky Barr in Chalfont St. Giles. Welcome back to dancing!! Hope that you will really derive pleasure enjoyment and benefit. I know this sounds really crazy but if you wanted to travel within reason (and time wise it might be less minutes travelling that fighting to get south of the river) then amongst others you have Martin Cutler in Solihull, Warren Bullock in Wolverhampton and Francis Dawson in Birmingham. I think you might also find prices not quite at London levels!! Hope this is of some help. Let me know if you would like contact info for any one of these - Good old Dance News! I am not providing a comprehensive list nor making recommendations these were simply names of respected people that came to me whilst reading your post. Gail Joined on 13 Aug 2004 Total posts: 23	Dance lessons Tuesday, 16 November 2004 06:11 For what it is worth, the last time we looked to change teachers we looked at the listing in Dance News and wrote a list of all teachers who were within a reasonable striking distance of us. We even put their studio addresses through a route finder programme to see how long, comparatively, it would take us to get to them. If you are prepared to contemplate the Midlands you will end up with a much longer list than the three names 2leftfeet has given you. We then took soundings about the various teachers from other dancers we knew, considered the teacher's own competitive career and who their successful couples were to see if we admired their style. After that we booked a series of trial lessons with those who ended up on the short list. It seems that approach is perfectly acceptable if you are open with a possible teacher that this is what you are doing. How then you choose between them will depend I think on how their teaching matches your individual needs and learning style. There is no "one size" fits all..... Reply Quote
