All week there have been rumours. Now is a mystery.

Howson/Bolton and Hawkins/Hawkins were in the original start list but are not shown in the recalled 157, They would have had to qualify as they did not compete last year.

They are also completely missing (not even shown as "withdrawn")  from  the "No results for these couples".  Like they just disappeared..

We were able to talk to them on the spot and they have both not started as Justina and Timmy are injured. (Of course they were both dancing the teammatch, but remember dancing 5 dances in a spacious floor is not exactly the same as dancing 40 dances in one day, while couples around you fight for their life and empty floorspace.)

Yes. They danced 2 or 3 dances in the first round only before withdrawing. They were recalled to the second round but could not dance.

The withdrawal of Howson and Hawkins second year in row seems to be some political statement. The probability of the same couples getting injured at the same competition twice is so minimal that something else has to be the cause of the withdrawal.

Actually we talked to them about it and they said that it is the same back injury (Timothy) which was not fully cured. They can dance few rounds, but in Blackpool they would have to dance from the first round, and they did not feel good enough.

Simply Dancer, I think the reason that the two couples didn't dance at Blackpool last year was not through injury but because they were both representing England at the Professional World Championships which took place in Blackpool on the day following the British Open comp. Presumably they felt that they gave themselves a better chance at the World event if they wern't attempting to dance two such big events in two days??

If I remember correctly - Professional World Championships were after British Closed not after British Open.
