Re: Olympics 2016 ! What a Relieve It Is !

Good News !   IOC is considering the inclusion of two new sports in the Olympic Games 2016.

Only 7 years from now !

Fortunately for us the sports are Golf and possibly  Rugby,  closely followed by Women's Soft Ball.  Both sports being  true, widely followed  sports with measurable results.

As a  follower of the Olympic Games ever since I remember, and I am so glad Dancesport will not spoil it with  it's Hip Hop,  Rock and Roll,  Senior III Latin. I suspect that the skating system would not be well understood  and accepted by the miilions of viewers.

Perhaps Olympics 2020 ?  Suppose the future Dancesport Olympians  have yet to be born.

Todays News:  IOC rejected present Baseball because " The Olympic  Sports must be represented by the  World's Best athletes  in that sport "

Hint ! Hint !

As I understand there are 7 sports under consideration for 2016. : baseball, golf, karate, roller sports, rugby, softball and squash.

The IOC are also due to decide today if the widely popular Womens Boxing will be in London 2012!

I believe they are trying to have more women olympians. For 2016 I think Golf could have a great chance , closely followed by softball and squash.

IDSF will have to wait another  dozen or more years  for IOC to consider Dancesport  for inclusion into Olympics....

Complicating the situation,   and  excluding the fact that the best Dancesport Athletes are not members of IDSF  but WDC,    is the inclusion of over 50 ( fifty ) dance subordinated categories / dance types,  the most of which have  their  regional and  national Champions.

Who can be sure Ballroom/ Latin,  Ballroom Std.   shall  not be challenged by the Brazilians with  their Lambada ?

Many have tried to criticize IOC for meddling into Dancesport,  I feel they have not done that.

It is IDSF which tries to ascertain a special status of having "their" Dancesport recognized,  which in essence means nothing and places and extraordinary burden on IDSF and their members structure themselves, and meet all IOC's criteria, resulting in increased costs, unnecessary to ballroom regulations, and inconvenience to the dancers.

I mean  Athletes,  if you consider IDSF recognized  Senior III category and in fear of  health failures ( after a Slow Foxtrot  )  immediately required ALL dancers (  IDSF does not discriminate )  purchase a special health/injury  insurances, otherwise  the dancers  cannot dance in IDSF event.

See,  WDC can sit on their hands and do nothing, allowing IDSF sufficient rope does the trick. IPDSC is falling apart,  ballroom  dancers object to sharing floor and  waiting for other, to them unrelated dance styles /  circus acts /  to get off the floor so that they can complete their rounds the same day ....

Pretty messy a situation  I must say.

And I used to cheer for their run away train ...

Rock &  Roll is much easier to judge,  the height of the  leaps,  the number of revolutions, difficulty of  elements/moves/tricks  , body position, timing,  rhythm, musicality , fewer couples competing at the same time allowing  more focus, attention by judges, spectators,  and better quality judging...

Rock & Roll similar to trampoline,  synchronized sports,  standardized, compulsory elements easily implemented....side by side comparison enabling selection of the better dancers ...

Why would IOC one day in the 2020th   even consider Ballroom Dancesport with all the divisions, Pros and Amateurs, one  group disputing existence and significance of the other ?

What motivation is there for today's elite, top Ballroom Adult , even the Junior Champions to  take sides and sacrifice their futures to dancesport with such an unattainable promise ? Even if Ballroom  would be included, today's dancers would be too old ...

Forget Olympics 2016, forget 2020, we  may be  talking about  2028  or later.

How old will the IDSF directors be, if still alive  ?  Will they look anything like the IOC's Honorary President for Life  life-the J. Antonio Samaranch,  who was awarded for  his visionary understanding of Dancesport  the  IDSF's President's Award in 2007 ?  How has IDSF reacted to Mr. Samaranch's cautioning that adding disciplines was bound to complicate the matters,  and that to achieve the goal , it was above all a matter of limiting the disciplines to the minimum ?

Lets talk about our life time, lets consider the goals of  today's dancesport competitors, lets serve well and try meet needs of the customers who support you now.

If IDSF becomes too futuristic, if IDSF places all their eggs in the same basket, if they lose focus ,  if they do not cater to, if they  fail to provide service to  the living customers,  if they neglect / order around their members,    they may take on unnecessary  risk of losing the good-will , and lose much more.

Thinkofme,

This is by far the best posting you have ever written. Sambatogo agrees with you completely.
